The Cloud Comfort Ruana
As the days get shorter and there’s a distinct chill in the air, there’s nothing I want more than wrapping myself in something utterly cozy and comforting. And that, is exactly what inspired my latest design: the Cloud Comfort Ruana and it’s a free crochet pattern!
Imagine a blanket, but one you can wear out and about, or simply snuggle into on the couch with a good book and a warm drink. That’s the essence of this elegant, oversized crochet ruana.
The best part? It’s made with readily available and super soft acrylic yarn, making it both budget friendly and incredibly squishy. Plus, the simple stitches mean it’s a perfect project for crocheters of all skill levels – even beginners!
Why You’ll Love the Cloud Comfort Ruana Free Crochet Pattern:
– Oversized Bliss: This Ruana is generous in size, giving you that wonderful “wrapped in a blanket” feeling.
– Versatile Style: Wear it over jeans and a long – sleeved top for a casual look, or dress it up over a simple dress for an evening out. It’s also perfect for lounging at home!
– Easy to Make: Using basic crochet stitches, you’ll be surprised at how quickly this beautiful piece comes together.
I can’t wait for you to make your own Cloud Comfort Ruana and experience the ultimate in wearable coziness. Here is the free crochet pattern!
NOTES:
- You will be making 3 pieces: 2 front panels, the back and sewing them together at the end. The pattern is exactly the same for all 3 pieces the only difference is the stitch count.
- The beginning ch 3 counts as the first dc throughout the pattern so you will be skipping the first stitch (the base of the ch 3) and working into the second stitch. I will remind you every row by specifying “skip the first stitch”.
- There are 3 sizes to choose from:
- Petites: Each front panel = 10.5 inches. The back = 26 inches.
- Regular: Each front panel = 12.5 inches. The back = 30 inches.
- Plus: Each front panel = 14.5 inches. The back = 34 inches.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER (You can use any method you are comfortable with to sew the seams. I used the mattress stitch method with the wrong sides facing me):

Fold the Cloud Comfort Ruana in half. Leave about 10(10.5, 11) inches open at the top for the armholes, sew about 10 inches for the side seam & leave the rest open for the bottom slits. You may have to sew less than 10 inches if you made the ruana shorter. If you prefer you can sew all the way down but I personally love the look of the bottom slits.

You are all done & I hope you love your new ruana as much as I love mine. If you feel comfortable sharing your finished piece please tag me on Instagram so I can see all your amazing finished Cloud Comfort Ruana’s!
