The Corsica Sun Hat Crochet Pattern
If you’ve been searching for the perfect summer accessory that combines effortless Mediterranean style with a quick, satisfying project, you have officially arrived at your destination. The Corsica Sun Hat is a free crochet pattern designed to give you that high-end boutique look without the designer price tag. This hat is all about texture and structure, making it the ideal companion for beach days, farmer’s market hauls, or just lounging in the backyard.
One of the best things about this pattern is the unique way we build the fabric. For the original design, I used two strands of fine weight yarn held together throughout the entire process. This technique gives the hat a beautiful marled effect and adds a bit of extra “oomph” to the stitch definition, helping the brim hold its shape against a summer breeze. However, if you have a specific yarn in your stash that you’re dying to use, don’t feel restricted. You can easily swap in a single strand of sturdier yarn or any other combination as long as you hit the pattern gauge. It’s a flexible project that encourages you to play with color and fiber to make it truly your own.
The Corsica Sun Hat is written in a single size that fits most adults comfortably. Because of the way the crown is constructed, it has just enough natural stretch to accommodate various hair volumes while still feeling secure on your head. It’s a straightforward, meditative make that is perfect for all skill levels!
Whether you stick to classic straw colored neutrals or go bold with a vibrant tropical color, the Corsica Sun Hat is destined to be your new favorite summer staple. Get your materials ready and prepare to crochet your way to a chic summer wardrobe!
MATERIALS:
– 2 skeins of Premier Cotton Fair yarn (I used silver & white)
– Size H crochet hook
– Stitch marker
GAUGE:
14 sc = 4 inches
DIRECTIONS:
With 2 strands of yarn held together ch 5 & join with a slip stitch in the first ch to form a ring.
CROWN ROUNDS:
1: Ch 3 (counts as the first dc), work 7 dc into the ring. Slip stitch in the top ch of the beginning ch 3. (8 dc counting the beginning ch 3 as a dc)
2: Ch 6 (counts as the first dc + ch 3), 1 dc in the next dc, *ch 3, 1 dc in the next dc; repeat from * around ending ch 3, slip stitch in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch 6. (8 ch 3 spaces). NOTE: If you are a beginner do not confuse the slip stitch made in the previous round as a stitch. I always find it helpful to place a marker on my slip stitches so I do not get confused & think there is an extra stitch at the end of the round.
3: Slip stitch in the first ch 3 space, ch 3 (counts as the first dc), work 3 dc in the same ch 3 space as the slip stitch, *work 4 dc in the next ch 3 space; repeat from * around ending slip stitch in the top ch of the beginning ch 3. (32 dc counting the beginning ch 3 as a dc).

6: Ch 6 (counts as the first dc + ch 3), skip the next dc, dc in the next dc, *ch 3, skip the next dc, dc in the next dc; repeat from * around ending ch 3, skip the last dc, slip stitch in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch 6. (24 ch 3 spaces).
