Free Plush Crochet Bath Mat Pattern

The Plush Crochet Bath Mat is a favorite pattern of mine that I originally posted over 10 years ago on Ravelry. When I realized I needed a new, cozy crochet rug for my own bathroom, I decided it was the perfect time to refresh this design! I’ve updated the pattern to feature a modern, easily accessible yarn and included a helpful photo to guide you through the process.

This easy crochet bath mat is a simple 1-row repeat, making it the ultimate mindless, movie-watching project. The texture is created using a variation of a cluster stitch. Instead of working the cluster all in one stitch, you will work it across two stitches to create a beautiful, thick V-stitch texture.

Choosing Your Yarn for a Non-Slip Crochet Rug

To make this bathroom rug plush and cozy, I highly recommend using a super bulky weight yarn (Category 6). While the mat might feel heavy while you work on it, that weight is exactly what makes it amazing underfoot! Plus, the heavy yarn keeps the mat grounded so it doesn’t slide all over your bathroom tile.

You can use a lighter weight yarn if you prefer, but keep in mind you will likely need to add a non-slip pad underneath to prevent it from sliding around.

The free crochet pattern below is written for the standard 20″ x 30″ bath mat size shown in the picture, but the dimensions are incredibly easy to customize to any length and width you need!

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky yarn (Category 6). I used approximately 480 yards of Lion Brand Hometown in the color Houston Cream.
  • Crochet Hook: Size N/13 (9.00 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Notions: Yarn needle and scissors for weaving in ends.

Pattern Notes & Gauge

  • Gauge: 9 sc = 4 inches
  • Skill Level: Beginner / Easy
  • Finished Size: 20 inches by 30 inches (Customizable)

That’s it and you’re all done! I never added an anti slip mat under mine and never had the problem of it moving around on my marble floors. If you have young kids at home or you’re going to put it in a heavily trafficked area then it may be a good idea to get one. I hope you all enjoy it and happy crocheting!
